My name is Alison Davies. I am the mother of three riding members of MGAGB: Sam Davies, Rachel Davies and Harriet Davies and I usually park my lorry with West Glamorgan. Why am I writing to you? Well I would like to introduce myself as the elected Child Protection Officer (CPO) for MGAGB.
You may ask what qualities or qualifications I have to hold this position. I have an accredited qualification in Child Protection. My present job role is to break down barriers with 14/19 year olds, who are from diverse backgrounds and have barriers to educational institutions or generic influences against employment. I am a qualified lecturer, who has recently completed an MA (PDET) researching, young adults 14-25 and their behavioural patterns in society.
You may or may not be aware that MGAGB is now a full member of the British Equestrian Federation and, as part of this relationship, we, as an Association, will be following BEF policies and procedures on many equestrian issues, including the BEF Child Protection policies. One such policy relates to the photographing of children under the age of 18, without parental or carers` permission. If you have not completed a consent form please download one from here (Word) or here (pdf) and return to Rosie Thornton.
The BEF also suggests a dress code for trainers/coaches, so they maybe easily identified. Suggestions would be useful.
The MGAGB is bound by a duty of care both legally and morally in safe guarding and protecting the children who are members of the Association, being riding or just family members.
MGAGB is committed to:
Ø Providing a safe environment for children and young people to compete in.
Ø Offering support and confidentiality to children and young people.
Ø Taking appropriate action to see that children and young people are kept safe, whilst attending internal and external shows.
Ø Listening to anyone who wishes to report their concerns relating to the welfare of children and young people and the promotion of a safe environment.
As part of these policies and procedures, a leaflet in relation to the BEF, “Information and Guidance for Children in Equestrianism” can be downloaded here - Page 1 & Page 2. If you have any queries or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me- you will find me at most of the shows during the season. My home address is at the top of this letter: my home phone number is 01639 750995 and my mobile is; 07813789326.
All issues and queries will be treated as confidential. However, if they are of a serious nature, then of course I will be duty bound to liaise with a member of the General Committee, social services or the police.
I hope that I have been able to give you an insight into my role in the Association and please always feel free to contact me with any issues or concerns you may have.
Thank you for taking time out to read this letter.
