The General Committee have now approved a set of rules for awarding League Points for teams genuinely unable to attend the re-arranged Spring Championships. Rory Capel and Alex Edwards who devised the current League rules were asked to consider the problem and come up with a fair and reasonable proposal. They consulted a number other riders including Rider’s Reps and as a result sent the GC a recommendation. The General Committee have unanimously agreed to accept their proposals. They apply not only to the Open Leagues but also all other age groups.
I had originally anticipated the proposal would take in account in some way the points achieved by teams at the Northern Ireland Championships. This was considered by the riders as were other suggestions including using last season’s results and awarding points to guest riders but in the end it was felt the results would be less fair than the simple suggestions they have made.
I am sure there will be winners and losers using this method as there would have been if any other factors had been taken into account. In the end the method we are adopting was felt to be the most fair and reasonable and so the General Committee agreed to it.
We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at Leicester Showground this weekend. The weather is still being very unkind in some parts of the country but I am told Leicester has escaped by and large. See you on Friday
